Pirates take to football practice field to get set for opening day

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. -

East Carolina's Diamond Pirates worked out on the ECU football turf football field Thursday making final preparations for opening day.

The Pirates will host James Madison in a three game series this weekend. Game one is set for Friday at 3pm.

Today's temperatures were in the thirties and a steady mist fell as the squad practiced.

"This group has done a good job to take the weather in stride," said Pirate coach Billy Godwin. "We're just excited about getting the chance to play tomorrow. The weather is expected to be better and we are really looking forward to it."

Pirate ace and potential first round draft pick Jeff Hoffman will get the start for East Carolina on the mound.

I would argue we live in one of the best places to cover football. At the high school level our teams always win state championships, then you get to see many of those players excel in college.
