Even a driver of small four-wheel-drive truck had trouble navigating in North Carolina's snowstorm, but that was because of hazards posed by other cars.
Gary Ogle of Clayton tried to get home Wednesday after leaving his job in Durham. The 52-year-old Ogle drove 15 miles in about three hours only to come upon a traffic jam at U.S. 70 and Alexander Drive that confounded him.
Drivers had to stop at a red light, then couldn't get traction to climb the hill. So he drove over a traffic island and through a median only to discover Interstate 540 also was a parking lot.
Although his truck had supplies, including insulated overalls, he opted to spend the night with a friend rather than in his vehicle. He drove home Thursday.
