PREVIOUS STORY (2/23/14 5:14 pm):

All lanes of I-81 are open again after being closed for about 8 hours Saturday night. Parts of I-81 in Bristol, Tennessee were closed after a deadly crash near exit 74. Two people died as a result and one person remains in the hospital.

Tennessee Highway Patrol told News Channel 11  the two-vehicle collision involved a tractor trailer and a car. The tractor trailer was in the right lane headed north on I-81. It then rear-ended a Toyota Camry causing the car to go into a tail spin. The tractor trailer and car crossed 3 lanes then hit the median pinning the car in between the truck and the barrier. The driver of the truck was ejected and then hit by a third vehicle on the other side of the median.

The state highway patrol arrested the driver of the third vehicle car after discovering she was driving on a suspended license. The driver of the Toyota Camry pinned to the median was taken to Bristol Regional Medical Center but later died from his injuries. The passenger of that car remains in the hospital in critical condition.

"It took approximately an hour, a little over an to get both of the people in the Toyota extracted just from the damage. It was really a blessing that the passenger survived…it was probably one of the most horrendous I've seen because the actual debris spread out over 6 lanes,” said Tennessee Highway Patrol Sergeant Paul Mooneyham.

Tennessee Highway Patrol said no one will be charged in the crash.
