CALDWELL COUNTY, NC (WBTV) -

A 15-year-old boy from Caldwell County has been airlifted to Charlotte after he was struck by a vehicle while searching for his missing dog.

WBTV has learned that 15-year-old Grayson Walker was struck along Fairwood Drive in Caldwell County on Monday morning.

He was taken to the hospital in Hickory and then airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

As of Thursday, Feb. 27, Walker was listed in fair condition.

WBTV has learned that the family dog was missing Monday morning so Walker went out looking for the dog.

Someone told him there was a dead dog around the corner, he looked and went into the road to get the dog.  That's when he was hit.

Troopers say the driver does not appear to have been speeding and was not ticketed in the incident.

WBTV has learned troopers will reconduct all interviews at a later time.
