TAMPA, FL (WFLA) -

The new uniform for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is getting a mixed reaction online, with fans weighing in on the new Nike attire the team will wear.

Fan comments on the official Bucs site, where their design was unveiled Monday morning, ranged from "love it" to "these are hideous." One fan had a split decision of his own, posting, "Love the helmets, HATE the UNIFORMS."

In downtown Tampa, the new uniforms went over well, as most people who were asked about the new uniform gave them a positive review.

"I think it looks stronger, and I just think it's more powerful looking," said Denise Sharpe.

The uniform features a new color scheme with more vibrant shades of the "Bucs Red," richer pewter and "Bay Orange," according to a release on the Bucs site.

Manny Burns said he likes the new uniforms, and while he doesn't think a uniform will "help anybody win," it "might give them some more team self-esteem," he said.

The new uniforms are the third design for the Bucs, which last changed uniforms in 1997.

"Today marks the culmination of more than two years of research and planning to bring the Tampa Bay Buccaneers into a new and exciting era of our history," Buccaneers co-chairman Edward Glazer said. "We worked closely with our partners at Nike to design a uniform that would set the standard for both design and functionality."

The numbers on the jersey are also prompting some chatter online, with some fans comparing them to digital clock numbers. But in addition to the style, the numbers also come with new technology. A reflective chrome border around the numbers is designed to make the digits more readable and give them a "unique glow," according to the release on the Bucs website. The team is the first in the NFL to use that type of border, the team said.

The new uniform design followed a new helmet look unveiled in February.

The new fan jerseys go on sale April 1.
