Freshman White honored by Conference USA

IRVING, Texas --- East Carolina forward Caleb White was selected Conference USA Freshman-of-the-Week by a media panel representing the 16 member schools announced the league office Monday.

The rookie from Buckingham, Va., received his first weekly honor after he averaged 18.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 34.5 minutes played in a pair of games last week. He shot 52.1 percent from the field (12-23), 50.0 percent behind the arc (5-10) and 88.9 percent (8-9) at the free throw line.

He posted his third 20-point game of the season Sunday with 23 against Marshall, making a career-high eight field goals. He scored the Pirates' first seven points against the Herd and played all 40 minutes. It was the third time in the last four games he didn't come out of the contest.

On Thursday against Charlotte, White score 14 points and made a C-USA career-best three 3-pointers to become the seventh freshman in school history to register over 40 3s in a season.

White ranks second on the team in scoring with 12.8 points per game and ranks fourth in the conference in 3-point percentage (.417). He has scored double figures in six of the last seven games and 25 times overall this season.

The Pirates close out the regular season on Thursday, March 6, against Old Dominion in Norfolk, Va. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
