Kinston boys, West Craven girls advance on second night of regionals

Kinston pulled away from Trinity in the second half as the Vikings advanced to the 2A Eastern Finals with a 54-40 win.

Andrew Lopez led Kinston with 18 points. Brandon Ingram and Darnell Dunn both chipped in 15. Kinston now advances to take on Northside-Jacksonville in Saturday's 2A Eastern title game.

Kinston led 20-18 after a low scoring first half. The Vikings outscored Trinity 20-9 in the third quarter to pull away.

In the first boys 3A Eastern semifinal Wilson Hunt ended Havelock's season. Josh Willingham led the Warriors with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The Rams were led by Kyran Bowman with 30 points and 12 rebounds.

In girl's 3A play, West Craven beat Northern Nash 57-45. Jamie Cherry scored 35 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. Cherry became the second all-time leading scorer in state history in the victory.

In Wednesday night's 2A girls semifinal, Kinston fell to High Point Andrews 57-56.
