For the fourth year in a row, the Shaw Lady Bears are CIAA champs, and the basketball team received some special recognition Friday afternoon.

A celebration was held on campus to recognize their accomplishment. Players said it took a lot of hard work and dedication.

"We weren't even supposed to win," said player Diamond Mitchell."A lot of people were saying that Virginia state or Fayetteville would take the championship.  And when we heard that we kind of took that and ran with it and came together as a team and know what we had to do to win."

Head coach Jacques Curtis said it's all about quality players. He said all the players on the team were new with the exception of Mitchell.

"It's a young team," he said.  "So any games that we get in the NCAA are experience for them for next season to really make a deep run, because we envision next year as our year. So I think we are a little ahead of schedule this year."

The Lady Bears will soon compete in the NCAA Tournament. Seeding will be announced Sunday at 10 p.m.
