Posted: Updated:
BELHAVEN, N.C. - Belhaven Mayor Adam O'Neal presented a plan to save Vidant Pungo at the Beaufort County Board of Commissioner's meeting Monday evening.

Mayor O'Neal's says Pantego Creek LLC is still considering buying the hospital but wants $3 million upfront.

Commissioner Hood Richardson says there's more hurdles for the company than just the money.  He says its not easy to just give them the money to "play with."

O'Neal's proposal would also cut employees down from over one hundred to about fifty-five.

The Board appointed a committee to review the proposal this week.

The hospital is closing April 1st.

Vidant Health plans to replace the hospital with a 24/7 care clinic.
