RALEIGH, N.C. -

The construction of a controversial home in a historic Raleigh neighborhood has been put on hold, the Board of Adjustment ruled Monday.

The home, located off Euclid Street in the historic Oakwood neighborhood, is 80 percent complete, but a ruling Monday afternoon by the Board of Adjustment brought construction to a standstill.

The argument from some neighbors is that the home's "modern flair" will not blend in well with the historic homes.

The homeowner, Marsha Gordon, wasn't present for the ruling, but her attorney, Nick Fountain, spoke with WNCN about what happens next.

"Their choices are to take the matter to Superior Court from here," attorney Nick Fountain said.

Fountain represents the home's owner, Marsha Gordon, who was not present for the ruling.

"Their choice is to file another Certificate of Appropriateness application with the Historic Development Commission and their third choice is to do both," Fountain said. "We will have to secure the property to prevent the homeless from coming in and protect the roof so it doesn't all rot while we sort this out. It'll be things like that that have to be done, but otherwise we have to wait."

The planning department will issue a "stop work order" to the homeowners saying they don't have all their paperwork in order.

City officials said no decision has been made if they will take further steps.
