A new report released Tuesday by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said just over 200,000 people had selected a health insurance policy by March 1. That's more than half the nearly 391,000 eligible to enroll in a plan sold on a federally run marketplace.
North Carolina trailed only four other states in enrollment with a deadline looming at the end of March to buy coverage or face a penalty.
The number of people enrolled so far in North Carolina outstrip federal projections from before the start of the enrollment period that almost 153,000 people would sign up for policies by the end of February.
