Columbus police launch program to track missing persons

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The Columbus Police Department is launching a program that could help find missing persons.

Grant money was used to buy radio receivers that could indicate the location of a missing person if that individual is wearing a tracing bracelet. The program is intended to help authorities locate missing individuals such as the those suffering from Alzheimer's or dementia.

Patrol officers on the ground can track the bracelets up to three miles. Helicopter officers could pickup the signal from as far away as 10 miles.

Those interested in receiving a bracelet, should call the Columbus Police Department or the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office.
