News Channel 8 got an up close look at the KC-135, a unique aircraft used for refueling while in flight, at the MacDill Air Force Base on Wednesday. MacDill Air Fest 2014
The KC-135 Stratotanker has been used for more than 50 years providing the core aerial refueling capability for the U.S. Air Force. It also provides aerial refueling support to Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and allied nation aircraft.
Officials at MacDill say using the aircraft enhances the Air Force's capability to accomplish its primary missions of Global Reach and Global Power.
The KC-135 is also capable of transporting litter and ambulatory patients using patient support pallets during aeromedical evacuations.
