Deliveryman in Gates Four shooting turns self in

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -

A man wanted in connection with a shooting last week in Fayetteville has turned himself in to authorities.

Gerald Hilton Lord, 48, of Fayetteville, turned himself in to Cumberland County deputies Monday on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, trespassing and assault by pointing a gun.

He has been hospitalized since March 10 when he was shot in the forearm during an argument with 18-year-old Thomas Earl Jacobs.

Jacobs also sustained an injury during the incident when a bullet grazed his neck.

Deputies say the argument began when Lord pulled into Jacobs' driveway when delivering a carryout order to a home on Towbridge Road.

Deputies say Jacobs asked Lord to leave, but Lord refused.

After Lord delivered the order to the correct address, deputies say Lord returned to Jacob's home and the pair began to argue.

Deputies say Lord allegedly placed a gun in Jacobs' face. They say the weapon discharged twice during a scuffle, grazing Jacobs' neck and striking Lord in the forearm.

Lord, who was employed by GoWaiter.com, had at one time been employed as a detention officer at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

Between March and August 2013, Lord worked in the jail. He resigned and accepted a contracted position in Kuwait. Prior to that, he worked at Simmons Air Field on Fort Bragg, as well as Lockheed Martin.
