ECU women's basketball team make program history

Posted: Updated:
For the first time in program history, the East Carolina women's basketball team has reached the postseason in back-to-back years.
The team accepted an invitation to compete in the Women's National Invitation Tournament.

East Carolina earned an at-large bid and will travel to D.C. to take on George Washington in the first round of the WNIT on Wednesday.

The Pirates finished their regular season with a 22 to 8 overall record.

Pirate coach Heather Macy looks forward to tomorrow's match-up.
"This is a spring board for next year and I think it’s a confidence booster to get these new kids familiar with postseason play so we can truly attack that goal a year from now of making the NCAA tournament,” said Heather Macy, ECU Coach.
George Washington will make its first post-season appearance since 2009 after finishing the season with a 21-10 overall record.

This is the school's fourth time playing the Pirates in program history.
