Winter winter can leave vehicles damaged

Posted: Updated:
EFLAND, N.C. -

Winter can leave a toll on our vehicles.

Jay Haggerty of Jay's Automotive in Efland said aprofessional detailer might be needed to remove the salt from the bottom of avehicle. That salt can cause corrosion and trying to remove it yourself mightget water in places it doesn't need to be.

"You got to watch what you run a hose into," Haggertysaid. "That's why I said it's best to let a professional do it. They won't getwater where it's not supposed to be."

Also, the cold temperatures can lower air pressure in tires. The manufacturer's suggested PSI is usually on a tire or on the driver's sidedoor.

After a long winter of steady precipitation, windshieldwipers can wear out. Look for the ends of wipers as they start to peel. That'sa sign they need to be replaced.

Pot holes can wreak havoc on a vehicle, especially itsalignment.

"It's amazing. Potholes can totally annihilate your front end," Haggerty said. "They can alsotear up your back end. I've seen them bend axles, seen them bend control arms."
