HAWKINS COUNTY, TN (WJHL) -

A Hawkins County woman who police say drove her car in to a church because "God told her to do it" and then stabbed her husband, was in court Wednesday.

Stephanie Hamman is charged with attempted first degree murder and felony vandalism.

Hamman told Church hill police she was angry because she thought her husband was worshiping the NASCAR race at Bristol.

Investigators say Hamman crashed her car through the doors of Providence Church.

Police tell us her husband ran to check on her,and say that's when she stabbed him in the chest.

Wednesday in court, guards walked Hamman in, her eyes were closed, and she appeared to be talking to herself.

“Her mommy need her, you got to look straight forward honey, you can’t let these people tell you you're ugly," Hamman said while sitting in court.

Hamman would sporadically talk throughout her court appearance today.

"Mom can you hear me,” she said, “I've been looking for you for like seven years out in the dark."

Wednesday was set for Hamman's arraignment, but the judge postponed that saying she needs a mental health evaluation first.

The case is on hold until those results are available.
