CONWAY, SC - The Horry County Police Department is in contact with the Volusia County Sheriff's Office in Florida after skeletal remains were reportedly discovered earlier this week.

Lt. Robert Kegler with the Horry County Police Department confirmed the communication between the two law enforcement agencies Friday afternoon.

WKMG Local 6 - based in Orlando, FL - reports a garbage bag containing human remains were discovered Thursday afternoon by a man collecting garbage along the Oak Street near International Speedway Boulevard in DeLand. The man who discovered the bag, according to WKMG, claims a deputy told him the remains appeared to be that of a young girl.

In a press release from the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, officials did not confirm whether or not the remains were of a male or female.

Kegler, however, says there is absolutely no speculation on whether or not Thursday's discovery is connected to the missing person's case of Heather Elvis, who was last seen on December 18 in Horry County.

Kegler says the communication between the two departments is only to inform them of the case that is currently under investigation by Horry County Police. He notes there are a number of active missing person's cases in the area of Florida where the skeletal remains were found.

In a map presented by the prosecution on Monday at Sidney and Tammy Moorer's bond hearing, Florida is among one of the states the couple has traveled to in recent years along the East Coast.

Just over 3 weeks after Elvis disappeared, Sidney Moorer ran in the Walt Disney World Half Marathon as part of the "Give Kids the World" Team, as News 13 previously reported on. According to Tammy Moorer, without training for the run, he raised $4,000 for the non-profit that fulfills wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Sidney Moorer lists nearly 2 dozen places where they have vacationed in the past, including recent areas such as the Bahamas, Nassau, Key West and Orlando, according to his Facebook profile.
