Affordable Care Act deadline is quickly approaching

Posted: Updated:
COLUMBUS, Ga. - The deadline to sign up for healthcare through the Affordable Care Act is less than a week away. If you are not signed up by March 31st there are some costly penalties. Diana Montenegro, an Affordable Care Act navigator, says Valley Healthcare System has enrolled about 350 people since October.

Recently, she says at Valley Healthcare there has been an influx of people trying to get in before the deadline next Monday. Navigators will go through the enrollment process step by step with you if you are in need of insurance. They will also explain the insurance plans that are available in our area. Montenegro says there are some exceptions to the March 31st deadline.

"You started a new job then you could probably qualify for enrollment after the enrollment period of March 31st but if not you really need to enroll," said Montenegro.

There is a penalty if you do not enroll by the deadline. Montenegro says the first year penalty for the 2015 tax season would be $97.50 for each adult and $47.50 for each child that you claim. If you do need help enrolling you can contact the navigators at Valley Healthcare at 706-322-9599 extension 1901,1003 or 1903. You can also visit healthcare.gov for more information.
