2 killed, 7 injured in I-95 crash in Johnston Co.

SMITHFIELD, N.C. -

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a crash on Interstate 95 in Johnston County after two people were killed and seven others were injured.

Part of I-95 in Johnston County, near Smithfield, was blocked off due to the early Wednesday morning crash.

Troopers say a Chevrolet Avalanche traveling north on I-95 crossed the median and hit a minivan.

Officials say two people in the minivan died. There were six people in the Avalanche, including three children who were injured.

The names of the victims have not been released.

The lanes were reopened just before 6 a.m.
