CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -

The University of North Carolina issued an alert Tuesday night after a reported assault took place around 11 p.m. at Hill Hall.

The student was able to get out unharmed and reported the assault about 40 minutes later. The university issued an alert notifying students, faculty and staff around 12:27 a.m.

An "all clear" was issued after the suspect was in custody. An "all clear" means that the threat to the campus is over and activities can resume as normal.

The suspect is 52-year-old Rickie Donnel White and according to public safety. White is homeless.

Campus police say the building should have been locked, so they are looking into how White would have gained access to the building at that hour.
