5 transported to hospital following collision in Clayton

CLAYTON, N.C. - A total of five people were transported to the hospital after a van and a SUV collided on Little Creek Church Road Saturday morning, authorities said.

A van traveling north around 9 a.m. on the road hydroplaned and lost control, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said. A Ford Explorer traveling south attempted to avoid the out of control van but the vehicles collided, the highway patrol said.

A total of five people were transported to the hospital while the driver of the Ford Explorer suffered serious injuries, authorities said.

The Highway Patrol said none of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.

The driver of the van was charged with lane control violation, authorities said.
