Father and son stumble upon ancient human remains in backyard

Posted: Updated:
SALT LAKE CITY, UT - A father son duo in Salt Lake City, Utah was digging a pond in their yard to raise trout when they came across a remarkable discovery.

While working to widen the trench, the teenage son found something that looked like a skull, not more than a foot below the surface of the lawn.

At the time he tossed it aside, assuming it was just an animal bone.
When he went to take a break later with his dad they looked at the teeth, jaw line, and vertebrae and realized they found human remains.

Fearing they had stumbled upon a crime scene, they took the remains to a medical examiner; the examiner told them the remains are likely 700 to 1,000 years old.

Now archaeologists are on the way to their home to look for more remains and artifacts.
