Beards Credited with Pirate's 7 Game Winning Streak

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - Pirate Coach Billy Godwin has had a long standing tradition of not allowing his players to grow facial hair during the season.

This year he's had a change of heart.

"I told them as long as they keep having winning weeks, we can keep the facial hair," said Godwin after East Carolina's seventh win in a row on Sunday.

Pirate ace reliever Ryan Williams picked up his 8th win of the season in Sunday's 2-1 Pirate win over Maryland-Baltimore County. When asked if the players enjoy the chance to grow the beards Williams beamed and simply said, "Absolutely!"

East Carolina hits the road for their next four games. First up, it's the first meeting of the year against rival North Carolina State in Raleigh. Then, the Pirates head to Houston for a key, three-game Conference USA series against the Rice Owls.

If the Pirates keep winning then they will keep the beards...
