FUQUAY-VARINA, N.C. -
U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Oliver "Ollie" Hughes and his family were presented with the keys to their new home in Fuquay-Varina Thursday as the seventh Hero Home completed by Operation: Coming Home and its volunteers.
The home, on Shoals Lake Drive in Fuquay-Varina, was to honor Hughes for his service.
The home is the seventh for disabled veterans who returned from service in the Middle East.
Hughes, a former construction contractor, was deployed to Afghanistan in January 2011. His vehicle was struck by an explosive on April 13, 2011, and he lost a leg as a result. Hughes was released in June 2011 and has spent the last three years undergoing grueling physical therapy and multiple surgeries. He will live in the home with his wife and four children - a fifth child is due in early May.
