Motorcyclist killed during cancer benefit ride

Posted: Updated:
NEW BERN, N.C. - A motorcyclist was killed during a Saturday morning benefit ride for cancer patients in Craven County.

North Carolina State Highway Patrol say 68-year-old Richard C. Baldwin was killed while driving a motorcycle east bound on Aurora Road near Beaver Dam Road around 10:40 a.m.

Sergeant C. D. Toler says Baldwin was trying to pass other riders when he ran off the left side of the road, hit a ditch and overturned the motorcycle in the water-filled ditch bank.

No other riders were injured and investigating troopers say speed was a factor in the crash.

Baldwin was driving  a 2013 Harley Davidson for the Coastal Carolina Health Care Foundation’s Journey of Hope Cancer Support Center which started at the New Bern Cancer Center.
