THONOTOSASSA, FL (WFLA) - Two of the three fleeing drivers in Saturday morning’s fatal multi-vehicle crash on East Fowler Ave. have been identified.

William S. Ridley, a 47-year-old Tampa resident, contacted the Florida Highway Patrol on Saturday to inform investigators of his involvement in the incident that claimed the life of 30-year-old Amari A. Williams of Thonotosassa.

Michael P. Mercer, a 47-year-old Tampa man, was identified through the GMC pick-up truck left abandoned not far from the crash site.

So far neither man has been charged. Investigators are seeking a third driver who ran over the deceased’s body and fled.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol report Williams was traveling west in his 1985 Camaro just after 3 a.m. when he triggered the crash after passing and colliding with Mercer’s vehicle. The impact caused Williams’ car to flip over and rotate in a clockwise direction.

The GMC left the scene before authorities arrived but the truck was located off Fletcher Ave. several hours after the crash. Williams was ejected from his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ridley’s pick-up truck also ran over the body and fled according to the report.

If you have any information on the third vehicle or driver contact FHP at 813-631-4020. Charges are pending as the investigation continues.
