RALEIGH, N.C. -

Carolina Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller began his end of end of season press conference by announcing that “as of right now, I'm head coach of the Carolina Hurricanes."

Muller lead the Canes to a 36-35-11 record this season, finishing 13th in the East.

But his job, like most things within the organization, is still being evaluated. Hurricanes owner Peter Karmanos said last week he liked the coaching staff and felt progress had been made.

This past season was plagued with injuries to primary players for the Canes.

“Within four or five days, we lose both goalies and our number one point guy at the time, Jeff Skinner,” Muller said. “So, I would say the frustrating part is whenever we get momentum things happen to deflate it and we can't continue it."

Muller said the Canes have a good shot to end their 5-year playoff drought if the team can stay healthy.
