CARY, N.C. -

Cary police canvassed the area where man is accused of sexually assaulting a young woman Saturday.

Police searched the area of the Hawthorne at the Parkway complex Thursday evening for any evidence surrounding the incident.

At about 9 a.m. Saturday, police responded to the Hawthorne at the Parkway complex in Cary, where the 20-year-old woman reported that a man who had been behind her in traffic followed her home, pulled up to her in the parking lot and warned her of damage to her vehicle.

After thanking him she headed to her apartment, where the same man pushed her inside as she was unlocking the door.

“In our 20-plus year experience, we do not know of a crime like this in Cary. A true stranger-on-stranger crime,” said Capt. Don Hamilton with the Cary Police Department. “We just need to get him off the street as soon as we can.”

The suspect is described as a clean-shaven, light skinned black male who stands about 6-foot-1 and weighs 200 pounds. He has short black hair and pronounced green eyes that could be contacts.

He was driving a red or burgundy SUV. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Town of Cary Police Department at (919) 469-4012 or Cary Crime Stoppers at (919) 460-4636.

Citizens are encouraged to be aware of their surroundings at all times and take precaution if they believe they are watched or followed.
