Alabama State Trooper injured in shootout

Posted: Updated:

An Alabama State Trooper has been released from the hospital after he was in a shootout with two men in southeast Alabama.

Authorities say Trooper Lee Phillips was pulling over a car in Hartford on County Road 57. Two men got out of the car and ran. When the trooper chased the men they fired back at the officer. Phillips returned fire, but was shot.

Phillips was transferred to an area hospital where he was released Sunday with non-life threatening injuries. The two suspects were also wounded, but later released. Zachary Wood, 23, of Gleenwood, Alabama and Dillon Rafsky, 20, of Enterprise, Alabama are being charged with attempted murder.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is investigating the case.
