Man shoots at Johnston Co. deputy

FOUR OAKS, N.C. -

A Johnston County deputy was shot at while responding a call Tuesday afternoon on Lees Union Church Road in Four Oaks.

Russell Thorton said he was helping a friend move items up the road from 2199 Lees Union Church Road when a neighbor across the street became angry. Thorton said the neighbor retrieved a gun and began shooting across the street at them.

A Johnston County Sheriff’s deputy arrived on the scene and the shooting suspect fired shots at him, Thorton said.

The shooting suspect then got on his lawnmower and began riding around his yard.

The sheriff’s office said the shooting suspect was taken into custody.

No one was injured in the incident.
