Campbell University says President Jerry Wallace will retire in 2015, ending an 11-year tenure highlighted by the opening of a medical school and the resurrection of the football program.

The school announced Wallace's move on Wednesday. Wallace told the university board of trustees he will step down on June 30, 2015. After a one-year sabbatical, he will assume the honorary role of university chancellor.

Board of Trustees Chairman Ben Thompson said the panel will immediately begin searching for Wallace's successor,

Wallace expanded Campbell's health programs to complement its pharmacy school and established the first new medical school in the state in 35 years. He also led the effort to move the school of law from Campbell's main campus in Buies Creek to Raleigh in 2009.
