Two Duke Energy businesses crack top 10 for adopting solar energy

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Two Duke Energy businesses were among the top 10 utility companies in the nation for adopting new solar energy in 2013 according to the Solar Electric Power Association.

Duke Energy Progress ranked fifth in the nation and Duke Energy Carolinas ranked 10th. The two utilities combine to serve about four million customers in North Carolina and South Carolina.

In 2013, the two companies brought on about 200 megawatts of new solar capacity. Duke Energy said it's looking to add another 300 megawatts by the end of 2015.

According to SEPA, the top 10 companies on the list account for 82 percent of all solar capacity in the United States in 2013.
