RALEIGH, N.C. -

A 200-pound black bear was found dead on a park bench in front of Bostian Hall near the Brickyard on North Carolina State University's campus Tuesday morning.

The bear was discovered shortly before 8 a.m. by a university employee who contacted campus police.

A preliminary investigation shows that the bear was killed somewhere else and then deliberately placed on the bench on campus.

The North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission removed the bear from campus before 10 a.m. and have taken over the investigation with support by campus police.

The commission said it appears the bear was in good health at the time of its death.
