A six-year-old child is back home and recuperating after a gunshot pierced his thigh Friday night, and the kindergartner told WBTV "At least I'm still alive."
Jonathan Gregory knows he was rushed to the hospital "Because somebody shot me in the leg."
Jonathan's mother said the little boy was released from the hospital Sunday.
She said the bullet is still in his thigh, and the wound is expected to heal. Doctors gave Jonathan a walker to help him move around and exercise his leg.
But the six-year-old said he's afraid to go outside again and play.
"If I go outside people will shoot me."
"It's sad more than anything that your kids can't go outside and play without the fear of them being hurt" said Jonathan's mother. "Why? What would cause you to shoot into random kids. They're kids - all of them."
Jonathan, his sisters, and some friends were standing outside their apartment building at Davis Commons Apartments when someone started shooting.
"Somebody said they forgot you, then he pulled out a gun and shot me," Jonathan said.
Two people, a 17-year-old and 6-year-old Jonathan, were wounded.
Detectives charged three people in connection to the shooting Friday night.
According to officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, Christopher Willis, 21, Roberto Garcia, 18, and Levin Mayweather, 29, were been charged for their involvement.
Willis is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, injury to property, possession with intent to sell and deliver a drug, and possession with intent to sell and deliver a drug.

Garcia is charged with possession of marijuana.
The shootings happened around 10:15 p.m. at the Davis Commons Apartments on the 8500 block of University Station Circle, off of Davis Lake Parkway.
Police told WBTV that "The initial investigation indicates that there was an earlier altercation between the 17-year-old victim and several subjects. The subjects then returned to the scene and began shooting at the victim, striking both he and the 6-year-old victim."
According to officers, the suspects then tried to leave the area, but were stopped by patrol officers who were already in the area.
