FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Police confirmed a man was arrested after being seen with a handgun near the Fayetteville State University campus Friday.

Officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the area of Seabrook Park on Slater Avenue around 4:30 p.m. in reference to a man wearing an American flag shirt with a gun, police said.

Once officers arrived, the suspect fled on foot but was apprehended near the fire department on Langdon Street, police said.

Police identified the suspect as Tyrell Jaquez Siermons, 19, of 529 Spaulding Street in Fayetteville.

Siermons was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and resist, delay and obstruct a law enforcement officer. He was transported to the Cumberland County Detention Center where he is being held without bond.
