Durham police charge 2 with human trafficking

Posted: Updated:
DURHAM, N.C. -

Durham police have arrested two people on human trafficking charges after locating a 17-year-old girl who had run away from her New York home in February.

A friend of the 17-year-old saw an advertisement featuring the teen on an adult website and contacted the Polaris Project with the National Human Trafficking Resource Center. The center contacted the Raleigh Police Department who were able to track the teen to a possible address in Durham.

Durham police and an agent from Homeland Security went to an address in the 1500 block of Ellis Road where they arrested Mark Brown, 26, and Fatmiyah Tunis, 24, of New York. The 17-year-old was found in good condition.

Brown and Tunis are both charged with human trafficking and promoting prostitution of a minor. They were both placed in the Durham County Jail under a $750,000 bond.
