Greenville has new app to help visitors get around

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, N.C. - With so many people in town for graduation, the City of Greenville has a new tool to help visitors get around.

The "Visit Greenville NC" mobile app has information about events, where to stay, and places to eat.

It's free to download.

This week is also "National Travel Tourism Week" and new numbers are out saying the state's seeing a record number of visitors; more than 52 million in the past year.

More tourists equals more jobs. And all these visitors save each household about $435 in state and local taxes. Pitt County, in particular, is seeing a steady increase in tourism dollars.

"In 2012, almost $200 million was spent in Pitt County by travelers who came here and that's a significant number,” said Andrew Schmidt, Greenville-Pitt County Convention & Visitor's Bureau. “That puts us 22nd out of 100 counties in North Carolina."

Pitt was one of four counties in the east listed in the top 30 in the state for tourism dollars.
