LILLINGTON, N.C. -

A man was killed in Lillington Friday when the driver slammed into a school bus that had stopped to let the last child off on the route.

The Harnett County school bus was at the end of its run Friday on U.S. 401 just north of Joe Johnson Road when the school bus driver stopped to let the last children off.

A car driven by William Parnell III, 39, of Lillington ran into the rear of the bus, killing Parnell. He was a mathematics teacher at South View High School in Hope Mills, according to the Associated Press.

The two children remaining on the bus were not injured.
