Two arrested for church burglaries

Posted: Updated:
PHENIX CITY, Ala. - Two teenage boys have been arrested after breaking into a Phenix City church.

Around 12:30a et Tuesday morning, Phenix City police officers responded to First Baptist church, located at 2608 Summerville Road, in response to a building alarm. As officers were checking the building, two suspects ran from the building, Lt. George Staudinger says. Officers chased the suspects before being able to arrest them.

The two suspects, identified only as being 16 and 17-year-old boys, were charged with third degree burglary.

"It is believed that the suspects have also been involved in other similar church burglaries in Columbus," Lt. Staudinger says.

Investigators with the Columbus Police Department were not immediately able to say whether the two arrested are the same two seen in surveillance images stealing from Evangel Temple on Veterans Parkway. Columbus police were expected to release more information on their investigation shortly.
