OPELIKA, Ala. - The Opelika Police Department is urging everyone to keep their car doors locked in response to a string of recent car break-ins.

Between Thursday and Friday night, six cars were broken into and items were stolen, Captain Shane Healey told WRBL News 3 Monday. There are no suspects but the case remains under investigation.

"We would believe a large percentage of these breaking and entering cases would not be necessary if everyone locked their doors," Healy says.

Those six break-ins all happened within the same neighborhood and authorities believe the same person or group of people may be responsible. Police expected to release more details Tuesday outlining a second string of break-ins that occurred.

Two other car break-ins were reported in the Opelika area on Friday but those are believed to be unrelated.

The first string of break-ins is as follows:
-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 8:00 P.M. on 05/29/14 and 7:20 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 600 block of Waverly Place. The victim reported that their wallet and some cash were stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 8:00 P.M. on 05/29/14 and 7:20 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 600 block of Waverly Place. The victim reported that some cash and a cell phone was stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 8:00 P.M. on 05/29/14 and 7:20 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 600 block of Waverly Place. The victim reported that a duffel bag full of clothes was stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 4:00 P.M. on 05/29/14 and 10:42 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 2500 block of Waverly Parkway. The victim reported that a some change and jewelry was stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle occurred between 1:00 A.M. and 6:00 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 700 block of Rustic Street. The victim reported that nothing was stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 8:00 P.M. on 05/29/14 and 6:30 A.M. on 05/30/14 in the 700 block of Groce Street. The victim reported that a some cash was stolen from their car which was parked in their driveway.

Information pertaining to the second string of incidents is expected to be released Tuesday.

The information about the two unrelated incidents that occurred Friday:

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 1:15 P.M. and 2:30 P.M. on 05/30/14 at 900 Columbus Parkway (Angel’s Antiques). The victim reported that a duffel bag, clothes, antibiotics, books, a laptop computer, a laptop case, and external hard drive were stolen from their truck which was parked in the parking lot. There are no suspects and the case is currently under investigation.

-An Unlawful Breaking and Entering a Vehicle and Theft occurred between 10:00 P.M. on 05/30/14 and 8:30 A.M. on 05/31/14 in the 1100 block of Hampstead Lane. The victim reported that some cash, a Mac Book, a wallet, credit cards, a radar detector, and some tennis shoes were stolen. There are no suspects and the case is currently under investigation.
