RALEIGH, N.C. -

The city attorney's office will investigate a downtown Raleigh nightclub where a shooting occurred last year and a fatal shooting is believed to have originated last weekend.

City Attorney Thomas McCormick’s office to look into the operation and history of Club Bodi, located at 310 S. West St.

Early Sunday morning, 26-year-old Vernon "Bam Bam" O'Neal Jones Jr., of Lillington, was shot multiple times in a parking lot at the corner of West Hargett and South West streets, a couple blocks from Club Bodi. Jones was transported to WakeMed where he later died from his injuries.

Police say Jones is suspected of having left Club Bodi following a "disturbance" at the club shortly before the victim was located.

In a statement posted to its Facebook page, Club Bodi said it had nothing to do with Sunday's shooting, and attributed the "disturbance" to a "faulty piece of the club's internal sound equipment."

"No one was shot or injured inside Club Bodi last night," the club posted on Facebook. "The loud pop that was heard was due to a faulty piece of the club's internal sound equipment."

In August 2013, two people were shot at Club Bodi. Michael Adolphe Cadet was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and assault with a deadly weapon serious injury in connection with those shootings.

The club, however, said shootings at the club are "extremely rare."

The city said it will take legal action if deemed appropriate.
