HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL (WFLA) - Hillsborough educators say four students pelted a school bus driver with gum, paper and other objects on the way home from Shields Middle School, and ran away after the driver stopped to call for back up.

The incident happened on Crestview Road in Wimauma Tuesday afternoon when a substitute driver was behind the wheel of bus #3944.

Eagle 8 captured the chaos on camera as a second bus arrived and the kids bolted into the neighborhood.

Cars and trucks had to bob and weave as a number of students ran down the road before a Hillsborough deputy arrived on the scene.

According to Eagle 8 pilot Judd Chapin, and photographer Paul Lamison, some of the kids ran as far as a mile or so into the neighborhood at Crestview and Rough Woods Roads.

School Board member April Griffin expressed concern for the behavior after reviewing the Eagle 8 video.  Griffin told 8 on Your Side she plans to raise the issue next week when the school board discusses a myriad of concerns surrounding the school bus system.

Griffin spoke the regular driver on that route and said he told her he's been reporting misbehavior for months but hasn't has much support form administrators at Shields Middle School.

Griffin reported that kids have called the regular driver "the N word" and often use "the F word"while riding the bus on that route. Griffin insists that sort of behavior needs to change on every bus route.

School district spokesman Stephen Hegarty told Eight on Your Side that discipline "has been meted out" after prior incidents on that bus and the four kids responsible for pelting the driver Tuesday will be held accountable.
