BIRMINGHAM, AL - Kevin Liles is a big name in the music industry. The hip-hop and R&B businessman is responsible for the branding success of several artists including Jay Z, LL Cool J and Kanye West.

Today, Liles addressed the Birmingham Business Alliance's 28th Annual African American Business Council Luncheon.

"The message I'm bringing today to Birmingham is around Generation E: education, employment, entrepreneurship and empowerment," said Liles.

The event was hosted by Protective Life Corporation.

The luncheon was held at the The Harbert Center in downtown Birmingham.

Liles is the former president of Def Jam Recordings and a former executive vice president at Warner Music Group.

Liles went from intern to record label executive in no time by taking chances and not taking no for an answer.

"I worked for free before I earned a check, but then I became the president in six years because I found my passion, said Liles. "I found something I love so much that I wanted to take the next level."

He gave that advice to entrepreneurs.

The music mogul, author and entrepreneur motivated people in the Magic City today and encouraged them to make their own mark.

He said, in order to be successful, one must always be innovative and creative.

It's an opportunity he admitted to missing a time or two.

"When I was younger, I used to turn my rob around and put my arms in it and then they invented the Snuggie. That was an opportunity I could have had."

Liles is known internationally for his leadership and ability to turn entertainers into a global brand.

His road to success and one others can follow is simple: "The CEO that I worked for my whole life was me. I'm the most important CEO. Nobody knows me better than me."

Today, Liles is CEO of KWL Management, which works with entertainers, athletes and models to develop brands, forge partnership and cultivate successful careers.
