Bell Arthur neighborhood slammed by thunderstorm

FARMVILLE, N.C. -
A Bell Arthur neighborhood off Bell Arthur Rd. and Watertower and Peaden Lanes sustained rain and wind damage from a severe thunderstorm Thursday.

Joe Anderson, Sr. knew something wasn't right when he saw daylight shining through his kitchen.

"I don't have light in my kitchen because i have a carport," Anderson said. "It's usually dark in the kitchen because of the carport."

As soon as he opened his kitchen door, he was shocked.

"I had no more carport," Anderson said. "The carport was gone."

It ended up strewn on a tree.

"I couldn't believe it," he said. "It was like i never experienced anything like this."

What Anderson experienced was simply a severe thunderstorm, but he says this storm was different.

"All of a sudden, it was like the rain wasn't coming straight down. It was going sideways," Anderson said. "The house started shaking a little bit. so i grabbed her and come on, we're going in the hallway"

Anderson and his wife weren't hurt.

He said they learned a valuable lesson.

"Be prepared because you never know what to expect," Anderson said. "I never expected this, and I'm going to start being prepared for next time."
