U.S. Women's tee times include 9 with North Carolina ties

Posted: Updated:
PINEHURST, N.C. -

Three Duke University golfers and one from the University of North Carolina are among the nine golfers with North Carolina ties who will appear in the U.S. Women's Open this week at Pinehurst No. 2.

Tee times were released Saturday.

In the field from Duke are Celine Boutier, Mina Harigae and Brittany Lang. Boutier was named ACC Rookie of the Year in 2013. Lang was named ACC Player of the Year in 2005 and is currently ranked 47th in the world by Golfweek rankings.

Playing from UNC is Catherine O'Donnell, who graduated from Carolina in 2012. She was named ACC Freshman of the Year following her rookie campaign and was a three-time All-ACC selection.

Wake Forest University is also well-represented in the Women's U.S. Open. Three current and former Demon Deacon golfers will be competing in Pinehurst, including Laura Diaz, Cheyenne Woods and Sierra Sims. Diaz, a 1997 graduate, was a two-time first-team All-America. Woods, who is the niece of Tiger Woods, graduated a two-time All America in 2012. Sims just completed her first year at Wake.

Also in the field are Ashley Knoll, who was born in Winston-Salem, and Sadena Parks who was born in Raleigh. Parks graduated from high school in Washington state and then competed for the University of Washington.

The world's No. 1 and No. 2 ranked golfers, Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park, will tee off in the same grouping on Thursday at 8:02 a.m. and Friday at 1:47 p.m.

The world's top six women's golfers will be competing in Pinehurst. Lydia Ko, ranked third, and Suzann Petterson, ranked fourth, are in the same pairing. They tee off at 1:47 p.m. Thursday and 8:02 a.m. on Friday.

Karrie Webb and Lexi Thompson, the world's fifth and sixth ranked golfers, respectively, are also in the same pairing. They tee off at 8:02 a.m. on Thursday and 1:47 p.m. on Friday. Thompson became the youngest golfer ever to qualify to play in the 2007 U.S. Women's Open when she qualified at the age of 12.

That record was broken this year, when 11-year-old Lucy Li qualified for the Women’s Open.
