PINEHURST, N.C. - Hot weather may have kept some people away from the U.S. Women’s Open in Pinehurst during the week, but by Saturday overcast skies and more bearable air temperatures welcomed golf fans to see the world’s best women golfers.

"It's a lot nicer than it was a couple of days ago when it was so blazingly hot," commented spectator Cass Manley.

Because temperatures soared into the 90’s earlier in the week, the USGA started giving each spectator a free bottle of water at the U.S. Women’s Open. There were also “hydration stations” where spectators could refill their bottles with water.

"It's too hot to not be hydrated," Manley said.

Spectator Dereck Gimpil said he was doing his best to stay cool. So he was happy to see cloudy skies Saturday morning. His best advice was to stay in the shade when possible, but he could always do that. Sometimes getting a better view means standing in the sun.

“Let's put it this way, finding a view in a shaded spot is a little difficult to do. So there are times when you're out there just to get a really good view,” Gimpil said. "It was worth standing there for 45 minutes to an hour in the heat [to see the leader tee off], but once you see that, that's what we're here for. We're here to see the experience."
