Update: Randolph Co. deputy arrested on assault charge

Posted: Updated:
RANDOLPH COUNTY, Ga. - Derrell Anthony Gilbert Sr., a deputy with the Randolph County Sheriff's Office, has been arrested on an assault charge following a GBI investigation.

On June 20, Randolph County Sheriff Eddie Fairbanks requested the Georgia Bureau of Investigation assist with investigating allegations involving Gilbert, according to a GBI news release. The media release states allegations were made that Gilbert assaulted a female while he was on duty.

Gilbert was subsequently arrested on charges of Violation of Oath of Office, Simple Battery, and False Statements. Following his arrest, Gilbert was booked into the Randolph County jail. He was released on bond over the weekend.

Brandon Faulkner, the husband of the alleged victim, tells News 3 that Gilbert grabbed the woman’s hand and made her touch his private parts.

Faulkner says his wife was assisting with a domestic call at a neighboring home when Deputy Gilbert called her to his car. Faulkner says the deputy asked his wife for her phone number. She didn't give it to him, saying she was married, according to Faulkner. Faulkner claims Gilbert then wrote down his number and as he was giving her a piece of paper with his number written on it, Gilbert grabbed her hand and made her touch his private parts over his pants.

“I don't want everyone to think that this was something where he pushed her or bumped her or something like that. I want everyone to know what he did to my wife,” Faulkner told News 3.

We attempted to reach out to Deputy Gilbert for his comment, but his phone number is no longer in service. Attempts to find out if Gilbert had a lawyer were unsuccessful. Gilbert has been placed on administrative leave because of the investigation.
