ECU hires Cliff Godwin as new baseball coach

GREENVILLE, N.C. - 9 On Your Side Sports has confirmed that former Pirate standout Cliff Godwin will be named as the new ECU baseball coach, replacing Billy Godwin. He will be introduced at a press conference on Thursday on the ECU campus.

Cliff Godwin was a high school star at nearby Greene Central High School before starring for East Carolina

Godwin played at East Carolina from 1997-2001 and led ECU to a pair of Colonial Athletic Association titles.  He helped lead East Carolina to three NCAA Regionals and a 2001 NCAA Super Regional berth. He was a team captain for three seasons and was named first team All-Conference and All-East Region and was also a two-time Academic All-American.

Godwin comes to East Carolina after serving as hitting coach at Ole Miss from 2011 until this season. The Rebels advanced all the way to the College Baseball World Series this year.

Prior to his stint at Ole Miss Godwin served as the associate head coach at UCF where he was responsible for the Knights’ offense and recruiting. Godwin also served on staffs at Notre Dame and LSU.

During his time as a Division I assistant coach, Cliff Godwin has worked with 44 players who have gone on to play in the professional ranks.
