BIRMINGHAM, AL -

New details are emerging in the death of Survivor contestant Caleb Bankston.  Sources close to the show confirm for "9 on your side" Bankston died after being crushed between two railroad cars.  He was an engineer for the Alabama Warrior Railway.  While checking on something between two cars, the train derailed crushing Bankston in between.  Both the Federal Railroad Administration and OSHA are investigating.  No one else was injured in the accident.

The reality TV community mourns the sudden loss of former contestant 26-year-old Caleb Bankston.  Sources close to the family confirm for "9 on your side" Bankston died Tuesday in a work accident at the Alabama Warrior Railway in Birmingham.  Bankston was a contestant on Survivor: Blood vs. Water which aired in the Spring of 2013.  He partnered with his fiance' Colton Cumbie.  Bankston finished the game in the top 10 claiming a seat on the jury, which voted Tyson Apostle as its winner.

While details of the accident are not immediately available, the Associated Press reports the company that owns Alabama Warrior Railway ordered a safety stand-down not allowing workers to yet return, providing crew members with counseling services during this difficult time.

Survivor: Blood vs. Water cast mates are honoring Bankston by changing their Facebook profile pictures to photos of Bankston, saluting his memory.  Word of the accident spread quickly through the Survivor cast family Tuesday night.  His Facebook page filling up quickly with well wishes to the family and prayers.  He last posted on his wall June 17th with pride that his job on the railroad was challenging.  In his final post he spoke of the 12.31 miles he walked every day, 24,418 steps.  Bankston wrote, "My daily walk while at work... always wondered how much I walked working on the railroad."  Described by all who knew him as sweet, kind and caring, Bankston joked in his last post, "on my off day... I walk to the couch!"

As a member of this Survivor family, my heart is broken tonight.  I had grown to respect and love both Caleb and Colton since they joined our ranks.  He will be missed by so many.
